Artists on the River

Saturday, September 25 is BC Rivers Day!

I’ll be celebrating at Artists on the River at the Fraser River Discovery Centre in New Westminster (beside Westminster Quay – see schedule of events). Even though it’ll likely be raining, even if just a bit, I’m looking forward to being outside for the day. All the artists will be lined up along the boardwalk (under tents), and all of our work has a river or environmental theme. The work I’ll be showing has more to do with the oceans, but the oceans are fed by the rivers and streams (and rain). For me, Rivers Day is a reminder that everything is connected.

Last year the sun shone, but the wind was so strong it carried one of my paintings off and blew it into the river. A major rescue operation  ensued. Thanks to the sculptor set up beside me who rigged up a fishing rod on the spot, we were able to retrieve the painting, essentially undamaged. This year I’m hoping for a little less drama, but no less fun and sense of community!

If you’re in the Lower Mainland, be great to see you on Saturday. The event runs from 11 am to 4 pm. The Fraser River Discovery Centre is super easy to get to by Skytrain—just get off a Westminster Quay and head towards the big blue building. If it’s pouring rain, everyone will be outside, otherwise we’ll be set up along the boardwalk. See you there!
