Months ago, I was approached by the organizers of EPIC Vancouver – the Sustainable Living Expo to see if I would be interested in organizing ocean-related artwork to be displayed on the trade show floor. I said YES immediately. I’m a strong believer in the power of art in everyday places (I mean, that’s where people are): art is made to be visible, not just tucked away in studios and galleries.
Vicky Bowes: Surface
My job was made easier by the fact that I was already organizing an ocean-themed art exhibition for the International Marine Conservation Congress in Victoria. I invited the artists to participate in both, with a focus on large pieces to be shown at EPIC.

My only sadness about EPIC is that it runs the same weekend as the Marine Conservation Congress, so I won’t be around to meet people and talk about the art in person at EPIC. (Next time!)

Hi Beth – Thanks for writing. Based on comments from the organizers, the art show at EPIC was very well received and something I’d love to do again 🙂 I think there are many opportunities for putting art in unconventional places – just takes keeping you’re eyes open!
